    • Elbowed Magnapinna Squid

    • Just thought I would share this video with you all. There was a news article 2 days ago about some people pulling up a giant squid from our Gulf of Mexico in their net I believe and it said that it weighed just over 100lbs. Our news people showed the photo on the news and it was in our local newspaper also. They were so excited about that squid find, so I decided to send them a video that was sent to me by a friend of mine who does work offshore on an oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico. He is a supervisor for some of the divers there on the rig. During one of their drillings their roving camera picked up this on the video and no one knew exactally what it was until after National Geographic identified it as a "Elbowed Magnapinna Squid". After I sent them the video yesterday morning one of their reporters called me and said that they were going to do a story on the squid since the gulf is practically in our back yards. But when they showed the video on late night news, they stated that everyone was guessing that it was somekind of "jellyfish". After everything that I sent along with the video they still said it was a jellyfish of somekind. Well, today I sent them the site to where it is on the National Geographic to show that it WAS NOT a jellyfish, but that it was indeed a "Elbowed Magnapinna Squid". FINALLY, they got it right. The segment was a lot longer than the night before and they finally got someone to pronounce the name correctally. My Mother and I just sat there and laughed so hard because they never mentioned my name, they just announced me as "a viewer". That's ok though, at least they got the squid right this time. I downloaded the video here on the site for you all to view it. ENJOY The Video, **Yvonne**
